Say What You Want About Montreal's Management, But Bergevin And Molson Coming Out In Turtlenecks For Plekanec's 1000th Game Was Top Shelf
Montreal management was getting absolutely shelled over the summer and for good reason. It would be pretty difficult for any team to have a worse offseason than the Ottawa Senators did in terms of PR, but the Canadiens were right there with them. Between the Galchenyuk trade and the Pacioretty trade and people still sour over Subban, it was a rough summer for Marc Bergevin and Geoff Molson. But I think they may have won me back with this move last night to honor Tomas Plekanec playing in his 1000th career NHL game, with all but 17 of them being with the Habs.
For me, Tomas Plekanec has always been one of those players that you hate but for good reasons. He’d be the kind of guy who would constantly be pumping your team and you’d just sit there thinking to yourself “how the fuck is this guy kicking our ass right now?”. It was a very respectful hate. You don’t hate nobodies and all that nonsense. And then the turtleneck just takes the hate to the next level. But that’s his signature. The turtleneck and the goatee. It may not be the best look in NHL history but it’s sure as shit one of the more iconic looks. I can guarantee you that no kid coming up in the NHL could ever think about wearing a turtleneck without getting compared to Plekanec. That’s how you know you own a look, and Plekanec owns the turtleneck. So whether you love it or you hate it, it’s a signature.
So for Geoff Molson and Marc Bergevin to swallow their pride and go out there on the ice last night looking like dickheads just to honor the guy? That’s a classy move. Probably a pretty comfortable move also. Might look like a dick but you feel fantastic.
